The practice will be closed from 18.30 hours on Friday 24th May 2019 and will reopen at 08.00 hours on Tuesday 28th May 2019. If you require a GP urgently during this time please telephone the surgery - you will automatically be transferred to the countywide out of hours service.
We hold the following Clinics at both sites :
The Midwife runs her own Clinic (Wednesday afternoons at our Main Surgery and Friday mornings at our Branch Surgery) with 15 minute appointments.
Appointments for child health checks and vaccinations are carried out in any of our surgeries.
Advice on contraception, emergency contraception, reproductive health and sexual health problems are available from a doctor of the gender of your choice. All advice is completely confidential, whatever the age of the person seeking it. The practice is able to fit contraceptive implants and coils. We are C-card registered and young people can access contraception services at the practice on production of their card. If you don't have a C-card you can register here for one (see below).
If you are planning a baby, pre-conceptual advice is available from the doctors and practice nurses.
We offer a drop in clinic every day in the surgery to all those aged between 15 and 24. We are able to offer emergency contraception and sexual health services (such as contraception and STI tests). There is no need for an appointment. This is a totally confidential service. Just ask at reception and they will get a nurse to speak or contact you. We are a C-Card Registration Point. You can register at the surgery with the practice nurse and then you will be entitled to a supply of condoms whenever you show your card to the receptionist. This service is open to all between the ages of 15-24. You do not need to be registered here as a patient. Even if you got your C-card from somewhere else you can still use it here at the surgery.
The practice recommends that all women take advantage of the cervical smear test – we suggest you start having tests at the age of 25 years. A further test should then be carried out as follows:
You will be sent a reminder by the Health Authority when you next Smear is due. The above recommendations are for "routine" smears only. If you are experiencing any problems and feel that you require a test earlier, please speak to your GP.
We offer to all our patients the opportunity to attend for Well Man and Well Woman check-ups when you will be able to discuss any aspect of general health with one of the nurses. She will be pleased to talk to you about your health concerns such as dietary problems, stress, alcohol consumption, smoking and all aspects of women’s health; including breast examination, the menopause, cervical smears and contraception.
Through your GP, the NHS is offering Health Checks to people aged between 40 and 74 years of age once every five years. The check is to assess your future risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs then together we can do something about it. You will be asked to arrange a blood test and to complete a short Questionnaire prior to your appointment with one of the Practice Nurses. The appointment should last between 20 and 30 minutes. We are writing to all patients in the age group but if you have not yet received a letter and would like to have a Health Check, please contact the surgery and ask to speak to a member of the Administration Team. They will make the necessary arrangements for you to receive a blood test form, Questionnaire and appointment.
The Practice policy is to offer vaccination to all patients over the age of 65 years, pregnant women, Carers and those patients suffering from certain conditions (such as Heart Disease, Asthma, COPD etc.) If you fall into any of these categories we will contact you by letter each year around September/October with an invitation to attend.
All our practice nurses offer help to stop smoking - for your first consultation please book a double appointment.
If you are making plans to travel abroad, please complete a travel questionnaire (deliver to reception) and make an appointment with the practice nurse. The form and more advice can be found on the above tab “Travel Vaccinations”.
Travel Risk Assessments
If you are planning a holiday overseas it may be necessary to have vaccinations prior to travel. In order to cater for your requirements we ask you to fill in a Travel Risk Assessment form which our Practice Nurses will use to determine exactly what you require to ensure you are adequately covered for your proposed travel itinerary.
The NHS covers the cost of certain vaccinationis but for some areas, mainly outside of Europe, you may require vaccinations that are only available privately. The Practice will advise you of the requirement for these vaccinations, order them on your behalf and administer. This service attracts a charge of £25 per person to cover the cost of Practice Nurse time and administration. Our Nurse will contact you when your Risk Assessment has been completed to let you know if a charge is applicable and how much your private vaccinations will cost. A guide to charges can be found on the back of our Travel Advice and Vaccinations Leaflet below. Risk Assessment Forms are available to download below or from either of our Reception desks.
Please bear in mind that you may need courses of vaccinations which are scheduled over several months to ensure that you are fully protected before you travel. Ideally you should make an appointment as soon as your holiday plans are known.
For further information please download a copy of our Travel Advice and Vaccinations Leaflet below

Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
